Quick Start Guide
To download OverDrive eAudio & eBooks you will need:
- A valid Library card
- Access to the Internet
- Free software: OverDrive Media Console (audiobooks) Adobe Digital Editions (eBooks)
Step 1: Visit the website
Go to Digital Library NJ and click on the Login link. Here you will select library (M.A.I.N.) and enter your library card number.
Step 2: Download & Install Free Software
As a first step, you will need to install free OverDrive software.
- For eBooks: Download Adobe Digital Editions
- For eAudio: Download the Overdrive Media Console
Step 3: Activate the Software
Activate the software that you downloaded. You only need to activate the software once for each machine on which you’ll use the material. You will be prompted to register the free software, just follow the steps.
- Adobe Digital Editions requires activation.
Adobe Digital Editions can be activated anonymously or by using an Adobe ID. Anonymous activation allows you to download and read DRM-protected eBooks on a single computer only. Activating using an Adobe ID allows you to download and read DRM-protected eBooks on multiple computers and transfer them to supported eBook devices.
- OverDrive Media Console for Windows requires a security upgrade.
OverDrive Media Console for Windows utilizes Windows Media® Player 9 Series (or newer) to play DRM-protected files. The first time that Windows Media Player attempts to open a DRM-protected file, it will alert you that a security upgrade must be performed before the file can be opened. The upgrade takes just a few moments. Only OverDrive Media Console for Windows requires a security upgrade. All other versions of OverDrive Media Console do not require security upgrades.
Step 4: Check Out, Download, and Enjoy
You can browse or search the site for downloadable materials. When you locate a title of interest, simply add it to your digital basket and check out the title. If a desired title is not available, you may place a hold on the title. Once you have checked out a title, a download page will be displayed. Click the ‘Download’ link to start the download.
